Isaac Del Toro ends season with Mexican road race title and 18 wins in total
Isaac Del Toro closed his remarkable 2025 campaign by winning the Mexican road race championship in his hometown of Ensenada on Saturday evening, just days after also taking the national time trial title. The 21-year-old UAE Emirates-XRG rider capped a year that saw him emerge as one of the brightest young talents in world cycling.

Del Toro waited patiently in a five-man lead group before attacking late and riding solo to the finish, dropping Eder Frayre in the final kilometres. Earlier in the week, he had dominated the 16-kilometre national time trial on the same roads, beating Frayre and Edgar David Cadena by more than a minute.
“It was a joy to take this win and to share it with the people of my home city,” Del Toro said after the finish. “I think I recognised 98 percent of the crowd out there today and it felt amazing. It was really windy out on the course, it made the race that bit tougher but I’m proud and happy to take the win.”
Because the UCI season officially ended on October 19, both victories will count toward the 2026 record books, even though they cap a season that produced 18 wins in total, 16 of them in 2025. The two national titles will carry into next year, when Del Toro will wear the Mexican champion’s jersey on the road.
“I hope cycling in Mexico can continue to grow,” Del Toro said. “It will take time of course but there are a lot of positive things happening and I hope I can help play a small part in that. It’s been an amazing season, now it’s time for me to take a good break but I’m excited to wear the Mexican champion’s jersey in 2026.”
Whether it will stand out remains to be seen, as UAE Emirates-XRG is not known for producing the most distinctive national kits.
His results underline a breakout year that already included triumphs at Gran Piemonte, Giro dell’Emilia, Vuelta a Burgos and Milano–Torino, as well as a stage victory and second overall at the Giro d’Italia. Del Toro will now start 2026 wearing the colours of Mexico, adding another milestone to a career that continues to rise rapidly.
