If Spain is a country associated with sunshine and heat, just imagine being from the part of Spain where there’s even more sun and heat. My summers, ever since I was about 8 or 9, have been closely tied to the Tour de France and La Vuelta a España: it’s part of our sporting culture, I was hooked as a kid and, besides, being outside here at 5 in the afternoon between July and September is sheer madness. Over time, I stepped out of the bubble of our traditional sporting habits and came across the Classics: as a lifelong fan, it felt like discovering a whole different sport. That changed everything. Forever.
