Stage 2 features over 2,800 metres of climbing across 204.6 kilometres, but a bunch sprint in Issoire remains the most likely outcome. Most of the climbing comes early, with the final ascent — the Côte de Nonette (1km at 5.3%) — cresting 17.6km from the finish, making it hard to use as a launchpad. Issoire has delivered drama before: in 2022, Wout van Aert was pipped on the line by David Gaudu, and in 2023, Pello Bilbao won from the break in the Tour de France.
