Stage 3 is the longest of the race at 207.2 kilometres and features just under 3,000 metres of climbing. Starting in Brioude — where Lukas Pöstlberger took a solo win in 2021's Dauphiné — the stage includes five categorised climbs, most of them in the first half. With the final climb, Côte du Château Jaune (1.6km at 6.4%), topping out 20km from the finish, the stage could go either way. A reduced sprint is possible, but if the breakaway builds a strong lead early, they may just hold on to the line in Charantonnay.
