Route
GP Denain is often described as a “mini Paris Roubaix”, and the course explains why. The race covers just over 200 kilometres, but it is the final 80 kilometres that define everything. That is where all 13 cobbled sectors are packed together, adding up to more than 20 kilometres of rough roads.
The opening phase is usually controlled, with teams focused on positioning rather than attacking. Once the peloton hits the cobbles, the race quickly changes. The sectors come one after another, with little time to recover, and that naturally splits the bunch.
The roads are narrow, the rhythm is constantly interrupted, and mistakes are punished immediately. Riders need power, but also handling and resilience. In recent years, this has made the race more selective, with smaller groups or late attackers deciding the outcome rather than a straightforward sprint.
