Jasper Philipsen sprinted to victory in a chaotic and windswept Stage 1 of the 2025 Tour de France. Alpecin-Deceuninck controlled the finale with a textbook leadout. Echelons split the race in the final 20km, dropping several favourites. Vingegaard and Pogačar gained time on key GC rivals like Evenepoel and Roglič.

The Tour de France returns to home soil for the first time since 2021, with stage 1 starting and finishing in Lille. It’s a prime chance for the sprinters, featuring one of the flattest routes in this year’s race. While there are three climbs, none are decisive, and the first yellow jersey is up for grabs. Expect chaos, nerves and a high-stakes bunch sprint - GC contenders will need to stay out of trouble.
