Ben O’Connor won stage 18 of the Tour de France with a long-range solo attack on the Col de la Loze, distancing Einer Rubio with 16 km to go. Behind him, Pogacar and Vingegaard neutralised each other for much of the climb until the Slovenian struck in the final kilometre. Pogacar finished second on the stage and extended his overall lead. Vingegaard, unable to respond, settled for third.

Stage 18 is the queen stage of the Tour, packing over 5,500 metres of climbing into 171 kilometres through the Alps. The peloton faces the Col du Glandon, Col de la Madeleine and the brutal Col de la Loze, finishing near 2,300 metres above sea level. With savage gradients and altitude to contend with, this could be the most decisive day of the race.
