Romain Grégoire (Groupama-FDJ) won the opening stage of the 2025 Tour de Suisse after attacking on a wet descent from a lead group of four. He had broken away from a 29-man breakaway that gained a decisive gap on the peloton. Grégoire held off Julian Alaphilippe, Kevin Vauquelin and Bart Lemmen to take the stage and race lead. It marked the eighth and most impressive win of his career so far. Pre-race favourite João Almeida lost over three minutes.
The 2025 Tour de Suisse opens with a road stage in Küssnacht, rather than the usual prologue. Riders face two ascents of the Michaelskreuz climb (3.8km at 9.1%), with the final summit just 13km from the finish. Attacks are likely on the climb or the descent that follows, but if any fast finishers survive, the flat final kilometre could suit them.
