Oscar Onley took a powerful uphill sprint victory on stage 5 of the Tour de Suisse, edging out João Almeida on the steep climb to Castaneda. The duo had dropped all rivals on the final ascent, while Kévin Vauquelin moved into the yellow jersey after Romain Grégoire lost over six minutes.
Stage 5 is the queen stage of the 2025 Tour de Suisse, covering 183.5km with over 3,800 metres of climbing. The route features the race’s highest point on the Julier Pass (7.4km at 7%), followed by a long descent and a steady climb to the San Bernardino Pass (7.3km at 6%, though the full ascent begins much earlier).
The stage ends with two ascents of the steep Castaneda climb (4.5km at 10%), with the summit finish in Santa Maria in Calanca. It’s a brutal day of high-altitude racing that could reshape the GC.
