Juan Ayuso kept the Volta ao Algarve lead after a strong time trial in Vilamoura, finishing a narrow second behind Filippo Ganna. Ganna won the stage by five seconds, while Paul Seixas placed fourth and moved up to second overall, seven seconds behind Ayuso. João Almeida suffered a major blow to his GC hopes, ending the day tenth at 42 seconds down.
