Paul Magnier won stage 4 of the Volta ao Algarve in Lagos with a controlled, authoritative sprint after the break was caught late and the peloton set up for a bunch finish. In a headwind and messy run in, he launched with 200 metres to go to beat Jordi Meeus, while Juan Ayuso stayed safe to retain the yellow jersey ahead of the decisive Malhão finale.
