Dorian Godon edged out Remco Evenepoel in a tight uphill sprint to win the opening stage of the Volta a Catalunya in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, with Tom Pidcock finishing third. The race came together after a controlled chase of the break, before a fast and selective finale thinned out the peloton. Evenepoel launched early but was overtaken in the final metres, falling just short of victory.
