Biniam Girmay won stage 1 of the Volta Comunitat Valenciana in Torreblanca for NSN Cycling Team, claiming his first victory since the 2024 Tour de France after holding off Arne Marit in a reduced bunch sprint. The stage blew apart on the Puerto Los Madroños when Remco Evenepoel’s Red Bull squad forced a split, and Giulio Pellizzari briefly went clear solo before being caught under the flamme rouge. Girmay now wears yellow heading into the stage 2 time trial, where Evenepoel is the clear favourite for the stage win and overall lead.
