05.09
João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) won stage 13 of the Vuelta a España on the brutal Angliru, outsprinting overall leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike). Despite repeated attacks on the 20% gradients, Almeida could not drop the Dane, who defended the red jersey with success. Thanks to bonus seconds, Almeida cut the deficit to 46 seconds, while Tom Pidcock stayed third overall and Jai Hindley closed in on the podium.
What we said beforehand
Stage 13 is the longest of the 2025 Vuelta and features three major climbs, culminating with the return of the legendary L’Angliru. Before the final ascent, the Alto de Mozqueta and Alto de Cordal will provide a brutal warm-up in the last 60km. The Angliru’s 12.5km at over 10% average includes a notorious section of 23.5% with 3km to go. Visma | Lease a Bike will look to repeat their 2023 dominance, when Roglič, Vingegaard and Kuss took a 1-2-3 on its slopes.
