Stage 17 Vuelta a España 2025

10.09

Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) claimed his first Grand Tour stage win on the Alto de El Morredero after a decisive attack in the final kilometres. Tom Pidcock and Jai Hindley completed the podium, while Jonas Vingegaard finished fourth to strengthen his grip on the red jersey. The Dane now leads João Almeida by 50 seconds heading into the Valladolid time trial.

What we said beforehand

Stage 17 features rolling terrain before the decisive category one Alto de el Morredero, the penultimate summit finish of the race. The Paso de las Traviesas comes first but is unlikely to be decisive with more than 50km to go. El Morredero’s mix of steep ramps, plateaus, and even a short descent makes it an unpredictable and rhythm-breaking climb, adding to its difficulty.
