Jasper Philipsen claimed his third stage win in Guijuelo, powering to victory in the bunch sprint. Jonas Vingegaard meanwhile extended his overall lead to 44 seconds over João Almeida after picking up four bonus seconds in Salamanca.

Stage 19 offers a rare late-race chance for the sprinters, though the rolling terrain and a late uncategorised drag to Guijuelo could disrupt a straightforward bunch finish. If the sprint teams lack control, the breakaway will be in with a strong chance. Guijuelo lies near Bejar, birthplace of four-time Vuelta winner Roberto Heras.
