Stage 2 Vuelta a España 2025

24.08

Jonas Vingegaard stormed to victory on a rain-soaked stage 2 of the Vuelta a España, outsprinting Giulio Ciccone in Limone Piemonte to claim his first Grand Tour stage win in over a year. The Dane had earlier crashed on a wet roundabout but recovered swiftly to rejoin the peloton and deliver a decisive finish. David Gaudu placed third, while Jasper Philipsen lost the leader’s jersey. Vingegaard now leads the overall by four seconds over Ciccone and six over Gaudu.

What we said beforehand

Stage 2 brings the first uphill finish of the 2025 Vuelta - a classic unipuerto test from Alba to Limone Piemonte. The 7.6km climb at 5.4% is unlikely to create GC gaps, but positioning will be key heading into the finale. Expect a battle for the red jersey between punchy climbers, opportunists and fast finishers from a reduced group.
