Stage 4 Vuelta a España 2025

26.08

Ben Turner took an emotional first Grand Tour stage win on stage 4 of the Vuelta a España, powering clear on the uphill finish in Voiron to beat Jasper Philipsen and Edward Plankaert. The 23-year-old Briton, a late call-up for Ineos Grenadiers after starting the Renewi Tour just days earlier, timed his sprint perfectly and delivered a surprise victory.

What we said beforehand

Stage 4 offers no rest - instead of a transfer day, the riders head from Italy through the French Alps en route to Spain. With over 3,000m of climbing in the first half, including the Col de Montgenèvre and Col du Lautaret, the stage favours a strong breakaway. But with a long flat run-in to Voiron, the sprinters' teams may yet bring it back and setting up a tactical battle between escapees and fast finishers.
