Stage 8 Vuelta a España 2025

30.08

Jasper Philipsen claimed his second stage win of the Vuelta in Zaragoza after a chaotic sprint, where Elia Viviani was later relegated for irregular sprinting. Ethan Vernon moved up to second place ahead of Arne Marit and Anders Foldager, while green jersey Mads Pedersen could only manage ninth. Race leader Torstein Træen finished safely in the bunch to retain his red jersey, as the day’s early break was caught with 17km to go.

What we said beforehand

After two gruelling mountain days, Stage 8 offers a rare gift to the sprinters - the flattest road stage of the 2025 Vuelta. With no categorised climbs and just over 1,100 metres of elevation, a bunch sprint in Zaragoza looks all but guaranteed. While the GC contenders can briefly exhale, they’ll still need to stay sharp in what promises to be a fast and chaotic finale.
