When was the World Championship Men's Individual Time Trial first held?
The elite men’s individual time trial was introduced at the World Championships in 1994 in Italy. Britain’s Chris Boardman won the inaugural title over a 42 kilometre course, beating Italy’s Andrea Chiurato by 48 seconds. The new discipline gave individual time trial specialists their own rainbow jersey for the first time.
Who has won the most World Championship Men's Individual Time Trial titles?
Fabian Cancellara, Tony Martin and Remco Evenepoel share the record with four titles each. Cancellara won in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010, while Martin triumphed in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016. Evenepoel joined them with victories in 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, becoming the first rider to win the title four years in succession.
