27.09
After Greg LeMond in 1983 and 1989 and Lance Armstrong in 1993, Brandon McNulty became the third American to win the elite men's road race at the World Championships after he went clear alone with 33km to go in Montreal. Michael Matthews took silver ahead of Mathieu van der Poel on a day that saw Remco Evenepoel struggle and Paul Seixas fade in the finale.

Route
The elite men’s road race in Montréal covers 273.7 kilometres and 3,803 metres of elevation, with the title decided over 12 laps of the Mount Royal circuit. The key tests come on the Voie Camillien Houde, followed by the steep Chemin de la Polytechnique and its ramps above 11 percent. From there, riders face a fast, technical run towards Avenue du Parc, where a rising final stretch awaits.
With repeated climbing rather than one decisive mountain, the course should reward riders who can handle attrition, positioning and repeated accelerations after almost seven hours of racing on Sunday afternoon.

Favourites
With defending champion Tadej Pogačar absent, the men’s road race looks unusually open. Remco Evenepoel arrives after winning a record fourth consecutive world time trial title and could complete a historic double. Isaac del Toro has already shown his strength on the course, beating Paul Seixas at the GP Montréal, while the French teenager also appears well suited to the repeated climbing.
Tom Pidcock offers another major threat, with Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert bringing different tactical options if they survive the toughest selections. The course leaves room for both climbers and powerful classics riders too.
