Device on Pogacar’s arm during Strade Bianche identified
The mysterious device on Tadej Pogačar’s arm during Strade Bianche ha been identified. The object became noticeable after the finish in Siena. As Pogacar lifted his arm in celebration on the Piazza del Campo, a small bulge could be seen under the sleeve of his rainbow jersey on his upper arm near the armpit.

The Slovenian rider won the race after a long solo effort. His decisive move came on the Monte Sante Marie gravel sector. From there he rode clear of the field and covered roughly the final 78 kilometres alone before reaching the Piazza del Campo.
The object under his sleeve drew attention from viewers and commentators. Various possibilities were mentioned, including sensors that measure lactate levels or core body temperature during competition.
According to reporting by Velo, the device was a Whoop wearable. The tracker measures metrics such as heart rate, heart rate variability, breathing rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen levels. These data are typically used to assess fatigue, sleep quality and overall readiness to perform.
Most riders wear the tracker on their wrist. Mathieu van der Poel, for example, regularly races with a Whoop strap clearly visible on his arm.
Pogačar, however, opted for the bicep strap version. The alternative placement can sometimes provide more stable readings during intense movement and is also preferred by athletes who do not want anything around the wrist.
So far, no specific explanation has been given for Pogačar’s choice of placement in this case.
