Against the clock, there’s nowhere to hide. The 2025 Tour features two individual time trials - one for the pure specialists, the other a tough uphill finish.
This year’s ITTs are radically different: one long and flat, the other short and steep. Together, they offer pivotal moments in the fight for yellow. Whether it’s gaining time or limiting losses, these stages could tip the balance - especially with the mountain TT coming late in the race.
The first of two individual time trials is built for the specialists. Wide, flat roads over 33 kilometres favour pure power and consistency, giving strong time trialists a clear advantage.
It’s long enough for riders to pace their effort and short on surprises - the best against the clock should rise to the top. Whether a specialist seizes the day or a GC contender delivers, the yellow jersey could well change hands.
The second time trial of the 2025 Tour is a mountain test. Just two kilometres of flat before the riders hit the 8 km climb to Peyragudes, averaging 7.9% and finishing on the infamous ‘007’ altiport ramp. Last used in 2022, where Pogačar edged Vingegaard, this finale returns as a solo battle - with no room to hide and no time to settle in. A perfect warm-up and pacing strategy will be essential.
