Tour de France 2025 - Withdrawals after stage 21
The 2025 Tour de France kicked off on July 5 in Lille, but not all riders will make it to Paris. Domestique will keep you up to date with the riders who withdraw from the race each day.

Who has withdrawn from the 2025 Tour de France?
Although 184 riders are set to take to the start line in Lille on July 5, it is a foregone conclusion that not all will make it to Paris, despite the grit and determination displayed by every rider involved in the race.
The fact that the 2025 Tour de France is 3,338.8 kilometres (2,065 miles) long, takes place in the middle of the summer, with the riders fighting relentlessly with one another for 21 stage including over the Alps and Pyranees in the most important race in the world, means that it is inevitable that there will be withdrawals as the Tour goes on. Making it to Paris is a major achievement in its own right, and withdrawals from the Tour are a sharp reminder about the brutal nature of professional cycling.
There are numerous reasons why a rider may have to withdraw from the Tour de France, whether that be an illness picked up during the race, through injury, crashing out or even being eliminated by the time cut. The most withdrawals in a single edition of the Tour de France were in 1998, where only 96 out of 189 starters crossed the finish line in Paris, although in that edition, many teams and riders withdrew from the race due to a doping scandal, known as the Festina affair. In 2024, 141 out of 176 starters crossed the finish line in Nice.
Here, you can keep up to date with the riders who have unfortunately had to abandon the 2025 Tour, as the race goes on.
Unfortunately, stage 1 has already claimed two prominent names: Filippo Ganna and Stefan Bissegger. There were no withdrawals on stage 2. Stage 3 was marked by a heavy crash involving Jasper Philipsen, forcing the Belgian sprinter to abandon the race. In that stage, Émilien Jeannière also crashed. He finished stage 4, but didn't start in stage 5 due to his injuries.
Stage 7 was the final stage for Mattia Cattaneo after he didn't recover well enough from his crash in stage 4. Due to a crash in the final, Jack Haig had also to abandon the race as well as Eddie Dunbar who didn't appear at the startline of stage 8. One stage later Joao Almeida abanoned as the consequences of the same crash as Haig and Dunbar. Marijn van den Berg, George Zimmermann and Søren Wærenskjold didn't start stage 10 after a crash earlier in the week.
Before stage 12 the news came out that Cees Bol wouldn't start due to sickness. Bryan Coquard dislocated his finger during stage 12 after grabbing a musette awkwardly, and didn’t start at stage 14. Stage 14 marked the end of the road for Steff Cras, Remco Evenepoel, Mattias Skjelmose and Lennart van Eetvelt.
Mathieu van der Poel didn't start at stage 16 due to suffering from pneumonia and the next day fellow countrymen Danny van Poppel went home due to the birth of his daughter. Stage 17 was marked by a big crash with Carlos Rodriguez and Cyril Barthe as victims. Enric Mas abandoned in stage 18 on the way to the Col de la Loze due to a knee injury and Yevgeniy Fedorov left the race due to sickness, meaning that the peloton entered Paris with 160 riders.
