Brandon McNulty is world champion. He is the first American man to win the elite road race at the World Championships since 1993, and he held on by just 13 seconds after going solo with more than 30 kilometres to go in Montréal.

With Tadej Pogačar absent, Team USA had a plan and executed it perfectly. Matteo Jorgenson shut down every chase, Quinn Simmons finished fourth, and three Americans finished in the top eight. Two days earlier, 19-year-old Ashlin Barry became the first American to win the under-23 road race world title.
