Vuelta a España 2025 prize money: Full breakdown and key figures

Here's a full breakdown of the prize money awarded at the final Grand Tour of the season.

Total prize money Vuelta a España 2025: €1.1 million

The 2025 Vuelta a España features a total prize pool of €1.1 million, which is less than half of the total prize pool of the 2025 Tour de France.

The winner of the general classification receives the largest individual cash prize. Still, there are plenty of other avenues of monetary gain throughout the race, from the other classifications, stage wins, daily jersey wearers, combativity, and team performance and more. 

Here’s how the €1.1 million prize pool is allocated.

Prize money Vuelta a España general classification (Red jersey)

The biggest monetary prize at the Vuelta a España unsurprisingly goes to the winner of the general classification. Alongside the red jersey, the race winner will pocket €150,000, whilst 2nd takes €57,985 and 3rd, €30,000. 

There are individual cash prizes awarded for riders 4th to 9th in the general classification from €15,000 to €6,000, whilst 10th to 20th will earn an equal amount of €3,800.

In total, between the top 20 riders in the final general classification, €337,285 will be awarded.

Prize money stage wins Vuelta a España

Each stage distributes a total of €28,260, totalling to an amount of €606,060 in prize money across the 21 stages of the Vuelta.

The winner of each stage will earn €11,000, with 2nd taking €5,500, and 3rd, €2,700. The riders finishing 4th to 9th on each stage will earn an individual cash prize ranging from €1,500 to €650. Meanwhile, like the GC, riders from 10th to 20th will earn the same amount as each other, a total of €360.

Prize money Vuelta a España points classification (Green jersey)

The points classification rewards the strongest sprinters. Points are awarded at both the finishes of stages and intermediate sprints, with a daily battle for the green jersey and a battle for an extra cash prize.

The winner of the points classification at the end of the Vuelta will recieve €11,000 whilst there is €550 on offer for the first rider across each daily intermediate sprint.

Prize money Vuelta a España mountains classification (Blue and white polka dot jersey)

Points are awarded towards the mountains classification at the top of categorised climbs, which come with five different categorisations. The more difficult the climb, the more points that are available. 

The winner of the mountains classification at the end of the Vuelta will receive €13,000, meanwhile €920 is on offer for the first rider at the top of each HC climb.

There is also a bonus prize, the Cima Alberto Fernández, awarded at the summit of the highest point of the race. This year, L'Angliru is where the special prize will be contested, with €10,000 on offer for the first over the summit.

The winner of the youth classification will earn €11,000, with 2nd taking €5,000 and 3rd receiving  €2,000.

The team classification offers prizes to the first three teams on each stage of €400, €200, and €100, respectively.

The first eight teams in the final team classification standings will also receive a cash prize, with 1st place earning €12,500.
