10 Groupama-FDJ United riders fined by police in training camp
A group training ride in Spain has left Groupama-FDJ United riders a little out of pocket after ten riders were fined by local police.
The incident occurred after riders, according to the local press, were stopped after passing through a red light on a section of road where traffic alternates in either direction.
One of the riders, 2026 signing Ewen Costiou, later shared details on the fitness app Strava, though the comments on the post have since disappeared.
After passing through the red light, the local police force issued fines of €100 to each rider, and according to Spanish traffic law, this is the standard penalty for the offence.
Before this incident, another cyclist was fined on Spanish roads, that being Johannes Staune Mittet of Decathlon CMA CGM, who revealed that he was fined for riding with AirPods during a training ride.
The fine was double the amount of the Groupama riders, coming in at €200, but was reduced to €100 if Staunne Mittet paid immediately.
Local traffic authorities continue to crack down on cyclists and continue to do so with strict enforcement for matters such as the two previously mentioned, and similar cases are likely to follow.
