Based on reports from the French newspaper, Le Télégramme, the peloton will lose one of its most recognised sponsors at the end of 2025, with another major sponsor set to take over.
French insurance company AG2R La Mondiale will reportedly end its 25-year co-sponsorship of the WorldTour team currently named Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale after the 2025 season, according to French newspaper Le Télégramme.
The same report suggests that cosmetics giant L'Oréal is poised to take over as the team’s new sponsor alongside sports retailer Decathlon, which is set to continue its partnership until at least 2028. Although it remains unclear which company will assume the primary title sponsor position.
AG2R La Mondiale has established itself as an iconic sponsor within the sport of cycling since beginning as a co-sponsor of the Casino team in 1998, Casino-AG2R. In 2000, AG2R took over as the sole title sponsor of the team, and the rest is history. The team has achieved multiple podiums at their home grand tour, the Tour de France, with Jean Christophe-Peraud in 2014 and with Romain Bardet in 2016 and 2017.
Since the arrival of Decathlon as a sponsor in 2023, the French team has seen substantial financial backing, and this has paid off in terms of performance. 2024 was one of the most successful years for the team, claiming 30 wins across the season, as well as a 4th at the Giro d’Italia, and 2nd at La Vuelta for Ben O’Connor, who led the latter from stage 7 until stage 19.
With the potential sponsorship from L'Oréal, the financial boost could accelerate the team’s rider recruitment efforts to try and expand on their recent success. Recent reports have linked both Olav Kooij and Tiesj Benoot from Visma | Lease a Bike to the team for 2026. The team are also reportedly in talks with Daan Hoole, winner of a time-trial at the Giro d’Italia from Lidl-Trek, and American climber Matthew Riccitello from Israel-Premier Tech.
