Azerbaijani junior tests positive for methamphetamine during World Championships
The UCI has provisionally suspended Azerbaijani rider Artyom Proskuryakov after he tested positive for methamphetamine during the junior men’s road race at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali. The 18 year old returned an Adverse Analytical Finding in two samples collected on 23 September as part of intelligence-led testing.

According to a statement by the UCI, Proskuryakov has been formally notified of the positive test and is suspended pending further proceedings. The governing body explained that the two samples which triggered the Adverse Analytical Finding were collected during the Worlds as part of intelligence-led testing.
“The UCI announces that Azerbaijani rider Artyom Proskuryakov has been notified of an Adverse Analytical Finding for Methamfetamine (D-) and its metabolites in two samples collected during the 2025 UCI Road World Championships,” the statement read. The rider retains the right to request B sample analysis, and the UCI added that it will not comment further while the case is ongoing.
The UCI clarified that Methamfetamine (D-) and its metabolites are classified as non specified stimulants under class S6.A of the 2025 Prohibited List maintained by the World Anti Doping Agency and adopted by the UCI. Methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth, is a potent central nervous system stimulant that is chemically related to amphetamine but produces stronger and longer lasting effects.
Proskuryakov finished 41st in the junior men’s time trial in Kigali and did not finish the junior road race later that week. Earlier this season he won the Azerbaijani junior titles in both the road race and the time trial, and he also competed at the European Championships, where he finished 49th in the time trial and, as at the Worlds, did not finish the road race.
Proskuryakov’s suspension adds to a series of doping related cases in recent months, including biological passport violations and stimulant findings across multiple levels of the sport.
