Canary Islands to open 2027 UCI season as 'Super' Worlds reshape calendar
The four-day race opens the 2027 road season as the UCI confirms the changes around the Haute-Savoie World Championships.

The Vuelta Ciclista a Canarias will open the 2027 UCI road calendar, with the race scheduled to take place from 14-17 January, as the UCI also confirmed several key changes ahead of next season.
The four-day stage race will be classified as a UCI 2.1 event and will be the first professional stage race to take place in the Canary Islands, with the racing set to be held across Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
It will mark the opening road race of the season before the more well-established early season events in Europe, Australia and the Middle East, coming five days before the start of the Santos Tour Down Under on 19 January.
These races will precede a busy season, with the calendar undergoing multiple changes later in the year.
At the centre of the changes are the 2027 UCI World Championships in Haute-Savoie, France, which takes place from 24 August to 5 September.
The second edition of the combined “Super Worlds” will bring together 20 UCI World Championships, an increase from the 13 during the inaugural edition in Glasgow, Scotland in 2023.
The men’s elite road race will take place on 29 August, while the women’s elite race will take place on 5 September, serving as the curtain closer for the event.
The Worlds will have an impact on the surrounding calendar with the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift beginning on 30 June, one day earlier than its usual date.
