Crash on Carrefour de l’Arbre turns junior Paris-Roubaix upside down
A crash involving a spectator disrupted the finale of the Paris-Roubaix U19 on Sunday, blowing the race wide open on the Carrefour de l’Arbre.

With three riders clear at the front, the situation changed abruptly when Soren Bruyère went down after colliding with a fan at the roadside. Gijs Winters, behind him, had no time to react and also crashed, ending both of their chances.
That left South African rider Dean Woolley alone in front. He quickly built a gap and, for a moment, looked set to ride away with the victory as the race headed towards Roubaix.
But the race was far from over. From behind, Dutchman Thijs Wiersma closed the gap to a fading Woolley and went straight past him. On the velodrome, Wiersma was joined by Germany’s Karl Herzog, yet he stayed in control and finished it off in the sprint.
