Egan Bernal reports 'disappearance' of Tour de France-winning bike

In a video on Wednesday, the Colombian said that his yellow Pinarello Dogma from the final stage of the 2019 Tour had 'disappeared,' apparently from his bike shop in Bogotá.

Egan Bernal has reported the apparent theft of the bike on which he won the 2019 Tour de France.

In a short video posted on social media by Radio Caracol journalist Diego Rueda, Bernal said that the yellow Pinarello on which he rode the final stage to Paris had “disappeared.”

“I have to tell you something, my bike has disappeared,” Bernal said in the video. “We’re checking the security cameras, trying to figure out what happened, so hopefully this can be cleared up quickly. We’ll keep you updated, so stay tuned.”

It is understood that Bernal’s Tour-winning Pinarello Dogma F12 had been on display at his Cycla bike shop in Bogotá, and an image in the video shows the bike is missing from its usual berth in the store. Bernal did not clarify if he had reported the matter to police.

Rueda posted the video with the caption: “We have received this video from our champion Egan Bernal, who reports the disappearance of his yellow bicycle with which he conquered the Tour de France. A piece that symbolises the glory of Cundinamarca and the pride of an entire country. We seek to clarify where the bicycle is.”

Domestique has contacted Bernal’s Ineos Grenadiers team for further details on the apparent theft.

Bernal was just 22 years of age when became Colombia’s first Tour winner in 2019. He would go on to add the Giro d’Italia in 2021, but his career was interrupted by a life-threatening training crash near Bogotá in January 2022.

Remarkably, Bernal returned to the peloton by the end of that season. After struggling in 2023, he showed distinct signs of improvement over the past two campaigns. He began 2025 with victory in both the time trial and the road race at the Colombian Championships, and he went on to place seventh overall at the Giro d’Italia in May, his best Grand Tour display since he placed sixth at the 2021 Vuelta a España.

Although Bernal’s GC challenge at this year’s Vuelta never materialised, he had the considerable consolation of winning the shortened stage 16, outsprinting Mikel Landa in Mos.

“This year, I felt like I started to be myself again; I felt stronger,” Bernal told Colombian television show DespiertaWin last month. “I feel different. This year, I went to the Giro, finished seventh, and I went to the Vuelta aiming for the podium. It didn’t happen, but I still believe that one day I can win again.”
