Enric Mas sidelined for remainder of 2025 season
Enric Mas will not return to competition in 2025 after being diagnosed with thrombophlebitis in his left leg, Movistar has confirmed. The Spanish climber had withdrawn from the recent Tour de France and has since undergone further medical tests and consultations.

According to the team, the condition - possibly linked to trauma - requires targeted treatment and complete rest from intense physical activity. As a result, Mas will miss the remainder of the racing calendar.
The Spanish climber had withdrawn from the Tour de France in July during stage 18 while sitting 18th overall, after struggling with increasing leg pain in the Alps. Subsequent medical examinations revealed the underlying cause, and Movistar’s medical and technical staff will continue to monitor his recovery with the goal of ensuring a full return in 2026.
Before this health setback, Mas was enjoying a strong 2025 season. In the spring, he claimed podium finishes at two WorldTour stage races - second overall at Itzulia Basque Country and third at the Volta a Catalunya - signalling excellent form ahead of the summer.
Mas’s absence from this year’s Vuelta a España is a significant blow for both rider and team. The Spanish Grand Tour has consistently brought out the best in the Mallorcan climber, who has finished on the final podium four times: runner-up in 2018, 2021 and 2022, and third in 2024. His consistency at the Vuelta had once again made the race a major target, but that ambition will now have to wait.
