Enric Mas has undergone successful surgery to address the varicose vein formations in his left leg that prematurely ended his 2025 season.

The Spanish rider hasn’t raced since abandoning stage 18 of the Tour de France, with medical examinations and consultations diagnosing Mas with thrombophlebitis in his left leg, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

However, Movistar announced in an official statement on Tuesday that, "Enric Mas underwent successful surgery yesterday to address the varicose vein formations present in his left leg. The procedure proceeded as planned and without any complications.”

“In the coming days, the rider will attend the corresponding medical check-ups and, if his recovery progresses favorably, he will begin his winter training preparation in the coming week,” read the statement.

Mas’s attention now turns to the road to recovery, where he will begin a carefully monitored recovery process before attempting to resume training for the 2026 season.

Movistar will be hoping that their star rider can return to his healthy self and the version who was able to finish 3rd at the Vuelta a España in 2024 and finish 2nd in the 2021 and 2022 editions with the team, as well as in the 2018 edition when he raced for Quick-Step Floors.

The Spanish team will also be hoping that the 30-year-old will be able to gel with new signing Cian Uijtdebroeks from Visma | Lease a Bike, who has revealed his own ambitions in recent weeks, a hopeful and much-needed boost in the GC department for Movistar.

Mas remains the only rider to podium a Grand Tour for the team since Richard Carapaz won the Giro d'Italia in Movistar colours back in 2019.
