Fernando Gaviria finds a home at Caja Rural after Movistar exit
Left without a team after Movistar opted against renewing his contract, Fernando Gaviria will ride for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA in 2026.

Fernando Gaviria will continue his career with Caja Rural-Seguros RGA in 2026 following his departure from Movistar. The Pro Continental team confirmed the arrival of the Colombian on Tuesday.
“What motivated me most to join Caja Rural–Seguros RGA was the conversation I had with them, in which I sensed their great enthusiasm for my joining. It seemed like a very interesting opportunity and I'm confident I can give it my all,” Gaviria said in a statement on Tuesday.
Gaviria has won 52 races as a professional, but he failed to notch up a victory during his final season with Movistar. His last win came on the opening day of the Tour Colombia in 2024.
Now 31, Gaviria first signalled his talent on the world stage over a decade ago, when he beat Mark Cavendish in two bunch sprints at the Tour de San Luis. Those displays earned him a move to QuickStep, where he was immediately up to speed, winning four stages of the Giro d’Italia in 2017 and then claiming two wins and a stint in the yellow jersey in his Tour de France debut in 2018.
Gaviria moved on to UAE Team Emirates in 2019, adding to his haul of Giro victories, but he would endure frustration in his subsequent appearances at the corsa rosa. He hoped to revive his career with a move to Movistar in 2023. He began positively with a stage win on the Vuelta a San Juan, but he would add only two more wins during his three-year spell at the team.
“Looking ahead to next season, my goal is to work hard, help the team in any way I can, and try to achieve victories,” Gaviria said. “Competing in a Grand Tour would be special, and in the case of the Vuelta a España, being able to fight to complete a set of Grand Tour wins would be truly exciting.”
Movistar confirmed towards the end of last season that Gaviria would not remain in situ in 2026, but he was linked heavily with a move to Caja Rural in recent days. Gaviria is the second Grand Tour stage winner to join Caja Rural for 2026 following the arrival of Stefano Oldani from Cofidis.
