Formolo sidelined for six weeks after bizarre tea cup accident
Davide Formolo will miss six weeks of winter training after injuring his big toe in an unusual household accident involving a cup of tea.

The Movistar rider revealed on his Instagram that what initially seemed like a minor incident has resulted in a significant injury affecting his mobility.
The Venetian rider explained that despite what appeared to be a minor cut from a fallen teacup, he discovered he was unable to move his big toe, resulting in the extended recovery timeline, and reflected the irony of the situation.
"Life is strange. You ride about 30,000 kilometres a year on roads with trucks that pass you within 2 centimetres of your handlebars. You hurtle down wet descents you don't even know like a kamikaze, then a cup of tea falls on your foot and creates this little cut... It doesn't seem like anything at first, but I noticed I couldn't lift my big toe, so no way: six weeks off," Formolo wrote.
The 33-year-old Italian, nicknamed "Roccia (Rock)," is currently preparing for his third season with the Spanish WorldTour team. His contract with Movistar runs until the end of 2026, but this setback means he will need to adjust his winter training schedule.
This unexpected injury will force Formolo to start his preparations later than planned, putting him behind many of his colleagues as teams begin mapping out their 2026 campaigns.
