Spanish prospect Guardeño in ICU after serious training crash
The Caja Rural–Seguros RGA climber, tipped for a Tour de France debut this summer, is in intensive care with severe injuries following a collision during training.

Caja Rural–Seguros RGA have confirmed that Jaume Guardeño is in intensive care at Hospital Taulí in Sabadell after being involved in a serious collision with a vehicle during a training ride on Tuesday. The 23 year old was airlifted from the scene by helicopter and remains in the ICU with severe injuries.
According to reports in the Spanish press, Guardeño was training near Centelles, in the province of Barcelona, when he struck a stone on a descent and lost control of his bike. He then collided with a vehicle at speed. He is understood to have suffered a serious head injury, although his condition is described as stable.
The accident came just days after Guardeño completed the Volta a Catalunya.
“From Caja Rural–Seguros RGA, we wish to send all our support and strength to Jaume and his family at this time, wishing him a swift and complete recovery. We will provide further information as his condition develops,” the team said in a statement on social media.
Guardeño has emerged as one of the most promising young riders in Spanish cycling in recent seasons. He finished 14th overall and fifth in the youth classification at the 2025 Vuelta a España.
His climbing performances at that race had led to expectations that he would make his Tour de France debut this July, with the Grand Départ set to take place in Barcelona.
