'I'll be back when I'm ready': Caroline Andersson suffered four brain bleeds after Worlds crash
The Swedish rider revealed the full extent of her injuries and confirmed her 2026 season is over as priority shifts to recovery.

Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco) has revealed the full extent of the injuries she sustained in the mass crash during the elite women’s road race at the World Championships in Montréal, confirming she suffered four brain bleeds, two facial fractures, a broken collarbone and a broken pelvis.
The Swedish rider was among those who were caught up in a major crash with around 95km remaining, which left many riders, including herself, forced to abandon the race and require medical attention.
Defending champion Magdeleine Vallieres (EF Education-Oatly) was also involved and initially continued before being forced to withdraw, and Paula Blasi (UAE Team L'Imad) was another contender forced out.
Andersson received treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital, and has since provided an update on the extent of her injuries and confirmed her season has drawn to a close.
"After the crash, I sustained 4 brain bleeds, 2 facial fractures, a broken collarbone and a broken pelvis. I’m stable now and in good hands,” revealed Andersson in a post to Instagram.
“My 2026 season is done, now it’s all about healing, especially my head, and taking the time it needs.”
Andersson has paid tribute to the Swedish team and her sole teammate, Julia Borgström (Hitec Products - Fluid Control), who stopped during the race to help her after the crash.
“Big thank you to the Swedish team for all the care and support, and to Julia, just for being my teammate through this,” said Andersson.
“And thank you to everyone who has reached out, it means so much. I haven’t been able to answer all but I do appreciate it. I’ll be back when I’m ready.”
