'It wasn't easy' - Del Toro ends his remarkable 2025 season in style with UAE 1-2 at Giro del Veneto
The 21-year-old Mexican rider confirmed the Italian one-day race be his final race of the season after UAE Team Emirates-XRG secured a one-two finish, with teammate Pavel Sivakov taking second place.

Isaac del Toro claimed his 16th victory of the 2025 season at the Giro del Veneto, attacking with 10km to go and soloing to the win in Verona to cap off an extraordinary year.
The victory marks del Toro's seventh Italian one-day race win in just 38 days and pushes UAE Team Emirates' season total to 97 victories. Despite not feeling at his best, Del Toro executed his race-winning attack perfectly on the final climb, the Torricella Massimilliana, just over 10km from the finish.
"No, it wasn't easy, it was a full effort by the whole team," Del Toro said when asked if the victory came easily. "It was incredible to manage another victory. I didn't feel like full commitment, but the team was always there for me, and I just wanted to finish it off, because they worked the whole day, so it was all in today."
"When Pavel [Sivakov] went so fast in the beginning, and also on the second-to-last climb, I thought that could be a good moment to attack, but in the end, we wanted to wait until the last climb," he explained.
Del Toro has now collected nine wins in Italy this season, including a stage victory at the Giro d'Italia while wearing the pink jersey as race leader.
His Giro campaign ultimately ended in second place overall after losing the lead to Simon Yates on stage 20 when the British rider attacked on the Colle delle Finestre, and the Mexican and Richard Carapaz were unwilling to cooperate to bring the Briton back.
When asked if he had any regrets from the Giro d’Italia or other races despite his stunning season, del Toro remained philosophical, insisting that he learns from all his experiences on a bike. "No, I think this is something that I learned, and for sure, without this, I cannot build myself in this way," he said.
The young Mexican confirmed he would not compete in the upcoming Veneto Classic, choosing to end his remarkable season, where he now sits 3rd in the UCI World Rankings, only behind his teammate Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and also Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike).
"Now is good to finish the season like this, it's super nice, but yeah, this is the last race for me," Del Toro said.
