Jonas Abrahamsen makes incredible recovery to secure Tour de France spot

The 29-year-old Norwegian has recovered from a fractured collarbone suffered less than ten days ago against all odds to make the Uno-X Mobility squad for the upcoming Tour de France.

Jonas Abrahamsen has been officially confirmed as part of the Uno-X Mobility lineup for the Tour de France, despite suffering a fractured collarbone less than ten days ago in the Baloise Belgium Tour. The 29-year-old received the green light to race, following a medical review in Manchester with one of the world's leading shoulder specialists, who described Abrahamsen's recovery as 'highly impressive.'

According to the medical expert, Abrahmsen's shoulder appeared to be healing like an injury sustained over eight weeks ago, rather than just over a week, and that it was "healing as well as a 12-year-old."

Abrahamsen abandoned the opening stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour after a nasty crash, and it looked to have shattered his chances of featuring at the Tour de France this July. However, Uno-X Mobility confirmed that further assessments showed the fracture was less severe than initially feared, but it is still an extraordinary comeback from the Norwegian, who is now set to feature on the start line on July 5 in Lille.

“I’m really happy and thankful. I believed it was possible, but it feels a bit crazy to be confirmed just nine days after the crash. I think it’s still possible to do something big, for me and for the team. Now I just can’t wait to start the Tour,” Abrahamsen said. “I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received from the team to make this possible."

General manager of Uno-X Mobility, Thor Hushovd, was very complimentary about Abrahamsen's grit and determination to recover for the Tour so quickly.

“Jonas is one of the most dedicated guys I’ve ever seen on a bike. What he’s done to get back here is simply incredible. We’ll continue to support him in the days leading up to the Tour, and we’re proud to have him on the start line. This should not have been possible,” Hushovd said.
