Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility) has suffered a broken collarbone after crashing during the opening stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour, the team has confirmed.
The Norwegian rider was taken to AZ Zeno Knokke-Heist hospital where examinations and scans revealed the extent of his injury.
"He will see a shoulder specialist in a day or two, and the next steps will be assessed after that," the team stated in their announcement.
Abrahamsen's crash occurred during the opening stage of the five-day Belgian stage-race, in what was a chaotic crash marred stage. Abrahamsen tried to ride on and continue but had to DNF the stage due to his injuries.
Uno-X Mobility is now focused on developing a rehabilitation programme for the 28-year-old rider.
"A plan will be made to help him recover as quickly as possible," the statement continued, while also expressing gratitude to the medical staff who attended to Abrahamsen following the incident.
"We would like to thank the staff at AZ Zeno Knokke-Heist hospital for their care and professionalism."
The recovery timeline for collarbone fractures typically ranges from four to eight weeks depending on severity, almost certainly ruling Abrahamsen out of the Tour de France, which begins on July 5.
