‘Just feel like Mike Tyson punched me in the back’ - Ben Turner laughs off Gent Wevelgem front flip
It looked nasty in the moment, but Ben Turner (Ineos Grenadiers) appears to have escaped serious injury after his heavy crash at Gent-Wevelgem, even finding room for humour in the aftermath.

The Ineos Grenadiers rider was involved in a high speed incident deep into the race, flipping over his handlebars after contact with another rider. For a brief moment, the concern was clear as Turner remained seated on the roadside, gathering himself after the impact.
Directly after the crash he already posted a video of the crash with the text "At least I won the gymnastics competition".
A day later, the 26-year-old Briton offered an update that suggested the damage was more superficial than first feared.
“Not my luck the last races,” Turner wrote on Instagram. “Mechanical on Taaienberg in E3 and getting my bars tangled with another rider in Wevelgem. Fortunately I practiced front flips on my bed as a child.”
The crash itself came at a key point in the race, with Turner part of a chasing group trying to bridge across to a move that included Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel. Instead, his race ended abruptly on the tarmac.
Despite the scare, Turner was quick to put the incident into perspective. “Considering the crash I’m happy to come out of it how I did with nothing broken,” he said. “Just feel like Mike Tyson punched me in the back. Let’s see what’s possible for the following races in the next days.”
Turner’s next race would have been Dwars door Vlaanderen on Wednesday, but his participation is now uncertain, followed by the Tour of Flanders this weekend.
