Kern Pharma rider ‘caught’ jumping over the continuous line on a Barcelona road
Spanish ProTeam Kern Pharma has moved to discipline rider Kiko Galván after a video surfaced showing him flouting road safety regulations on one of Barcelona’s most dangerous roads. The footage, widely shared on social media, captures the 27-year-old hopping his bike across the continuous central line of the L’Arrabassada road, drifting into the opposite lane in a manoeuvre the team later described as a “serious violation.”

L’Arrabassada has a reputation as one of the city’s most hazardous stretches of tarmac, with a raised divider built into the continuous line to prevent overtaking and reduce the risk of head-on collisions. Galván’s actions, posted by the Instagram account @circuliperladreta, sparked immediate criticism from road safety advocates and fans alike.
Kern Pharma quickly issued an apology in response to the video. “We deeply regret and apologise for an action that does not reflect the values we promote: respect for road safety, which is fundamental to our sport and central to our work both competitively and educationally. We take full responsibility,” the team wrote.
In a longer statement, the squad reiterated its condemnation of the rider’s behaviour. “Kern Pharma expresses its dismay at the images of one of our cyclists seriously breaching road safety rules. We will be taking disciplinary measures with the cyclist involved to ensure situations like this are not repeated in the future.”
While Kern Pharma’s statement did not mention the rider by name, referring only to 'the images circulated of one of our cyclists,' Galván’s identity was already clear from the footage. The 27-year-old turned professional with Kern Pharma in 2020 and remains under contract until the end of 2026. He rode the Vuelta a España in 2022 and this season achieved his best result with a third-place finish at the GP La Marseillaise.
The team concluded its message by underlining its commitment to strengthening the education and awareness of all its members when it comes to road safety.
