Lora Roglic hopes Primoz will continue racing: 'He's not ready to go home yet'

Lora Roglič became emotional as she reflected on the possibility of her husband Primož retiring from professional cycling. With his future still uncertain, she admitted she is not ready for the day when she and their two sons will no longer be following him at races.

Primož Roglič has yet to decide whether he will continue racing in 2027 following his departure from Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe. While the four-time Vuelta a España winner weighs up his options, his wife Lora hopes his career is not over just yet.

"I think he's not ready to go home yet," Lora told Slovenian outlet Sportal during the Zlati krog Primož Roglič charity event in Maribor.

The conversation took an emotional turn when she was asked whether she could imagine no longer travelling to races with their two sons, Lev and Aleks, to support her husband.

"I'm not ready for that moment, especially because it's so sudden," she said.

At 36, Roglič faces an uncertain future as teams finalise their plans for the 2027 season. The Slovenian has established himself as one of the most successful Grand Tour riders of his generation, with four Vuelta a España titles, the 2023 Giro d'Italia and an Olympic time trial gold medal among his achievements.

His performances in 2026 have shown that he can still compete at the highest level. Despite suffering a crash during the summer, Roglič recovered to finish second overall at the Vuelta a España before claiming the European time trial title on home roads in Slovenia.

For Lora, that victory was particularly special, not only because of the result but also because of the people who were there to witness it.

"What is better than winning at home?" she said. "When you lose, you deal with it on your own. Winning is best when you can share that joy with someone. I don't think there's a better moment than winning at home, in front of people who have also been there through the difficult times. For me, it was something exceptional."

'There have been more difficult moments than good ones'

Although Roglič's career has been defined by major victories, Lora believes his resilience through difficult periods deserves just as much recognition.

"When you look back, there have been more difficult moments than good ones," she said. "We were all proud of him when he won. But I'm most proud of the moments when he convinced us that it was worth carrying on, that we had to grit our teeth and keep going. All those moments when he endured.

"That might be the most beautiful part, even if it feels very difficult at the time. That's what makes you a better person."

Roglič has endured numerous setbacks throughout his career, repeatedly bouncing back from crashes and injuries that threatened to derail his ambitions. For Lora, those comebacks have been just as meaningful as the trophies he has collected.

Away from racing, however, the couple have made a conscious effort to ensure that their sons see Roglič primarily as their father rather than as one of cycling's biggest stars.

"I don't think they realise everything he has done. We don't raise them to put him on a pedestal. To them, he's mainly just dad," she said.

As they grow older, Lora hopes Lev and Aleks will come to appreciate not only their father's achievements but also the sacrifices and perseverance behind them.

"I want them to understand every side of his sporting journey, from the wins that seemed almost inevitable to the moments when he really had to fight to get where he was," she said. "I think the way we live and what we offer them sets a good example for life, not just sport."

For now, Roglič's next move remains undecided. And while Lora would love to see him continue racing, she made clear that the decision about his future ultimately rests with him.
