Mathieu van der Poel shows his unique bike skills in build-up to cyclocross return
Mathieu van der Poel reminded fans of his bike-handling genius this week, posting a viral video from Spain in which he pulls off a flawless wheelie while descending a set of steps. The Dutchman has been training on the Costa Blanca as he eases back into form ahead of the cyclocross season.

After ending his 2025 campaign early due to lingering fatigue and illness, Van der Poel has taken time to recover and rebuild. His training block in Spain, shared with riders like Freddy Ovett, David Dekker and Greg Van Avermaet, offers a calm start to the winter after a demanding year on the road and in mountain biking.
Van der Poel’s cyclocross programme will be announced soon, with the World Championships in Hulst in February already set as his main target, where he could win a record-breaking eighth elite men's title.
Is there anything 🇳🇱 Mathieu van der Poel can’t do on a bike? 😅
