Mikkel Honoré in intensive care after heavy crash

EF Education-EasyPost faced a difficult mix of emotions after a dramatic day of racing on Saturday at the Heistse Pijl. The team had reason to celebrate a major result, with young British talent Noah Hobbs taking his first victory, but that success was overshadowed by a serious crash involving Danish teammate Mikkel Honoré.

Honoré went down heavily during the closing stages and was taken to hospital, where he remains in intensive care. Team sports director Ken Vanmarcke shared an update with WielerFlits.

“We were involved in several crashes in the final part of the race,” Vanmarcke said. “The last one involved Mikkel. He crashed really hard and the day after the race he is still in intensive care in hospital. Mikkel is stable, but he has broken seven ribs, three vertebrae and his collarbone. He is also dealing with a collapsed lung. That is very tough and it will be a long recovery.”

EF Education-EasyPost later issued an update via social media, confirming that Honoré had crashed at the Heylen Vastgoed Heistse Pijl and sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured clavicle, several broken ribs and other non-surgical fractures. The team said he remains under medical care and is expected to undergo surgery on his clavicle in the coming days.

The situation made it difficult for the team to fully enjoy Hobbs’ win.

“Ten minutes later, we win the Heistse Pijl with our young talent Noah Hobbs,” Vanmarcke added. “You cannot celebrate that in a big way when someone is crying out in pain.”

Honoré is in his fourth season with EF Education-EasyPost, having previously raced for Soudal Quick-Step. His 2026 season had included a series of spring classics, among them 32nd at Milano-Sanremo, 35th at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, 55th at La Flèche Wallonne and 63rd at the Tour of Flanders.

There was also brighter news for EF at the Critérium du Dauphiné, where Alex Baudin gave the team another reason to smile by winning the opening stage.
