Mobility scooter causes dramatic pile-up in major junior cycling race
A bizarre incident brought the final stage of the LVM Saarland Trofeo to a sudden halt when a spectator on a mobility scooter entered the road and collided with the approaching peloton.

Dutch rider Paul Vriesman took the full impact of the collision. The Decathlon CMA CGM development rider was launched over his handlebars and somersaulted through the air, while several riders behind him were unable to avoid the crash.
Vriesman was forced to abandon the race, although he later confirmed that he had escaped without serious injury.
“It looked very nasty, but fortunately I seem to have come away relatively well,” he said afterwards on Instagram. “I still cannot understand how something like this can happen. You work incredibly hard, only to be set back again in this way.”
Despite the frightening images, neither the riders involved nor the woman on the mobility scooter are believed to have suffered major injuries.
