Modern Adventure issues new Ezra Caudell update after heavy crash as team asks for privacy

Caudell remains under the care of medical professionals with his family by his side, the team said in its latest statement. No further details about his condition were provided.

“Both Ezra’s family and the wider Modern Adventure Pro Cycling team have been incredibly grateful for the support and kindness shared following the injuries sustained last weekend at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic,” the team said.

Modern Adventure added that it understood the desire for further information, but stressed that any future updates would only be shared in line with the wishes of Caudell’s family.

“At present, Ezra continues to be supported by medical professionals with the support of his family by his side,” the statement continued.

“Further updates on his condition will be communicated by the team, in accordance with the wishes of the Caudell family, in due course.”

The team also asked that Caudell and his family be given the necessary space while they deal with the aftermath of the crash.

“Until then, we respectfully ask that they be allowed the privacy and space they need at this difficult time, and to respect that we will share information only when, and if, it is appropriate to do so.”

Caudell was seriously injured during Sunday’s Philadelphia Cycling Classic after crashing while attempting to bridge across to the breakaway alongside Lotto-Intermarché rider Milan Menten.

Menten, who was also brought down in the incident, later described witnessing the crash at close range. The Belgian said earlier this week that the experience had affected him deeply and that he planned to speak with a mental coach.

Modern Adventure has now confirmed it has been in contact with Menten following the incident.

“We have reached out to Milan Menten to offer our support and recognize the difficult circumstances we now share surrounding this incident,” the team said.

“We will continue to navigate this situation together, along with Ezra’s family, teammates and friends, supporting one another as we do so.”

Menten suffered comparatively minor injuries in the crash and told Belgian newspaper HLN that he had sustained whiplash and ligament damage. He also spoke about Caudell’s condition based on information he had received in the immediate aftermath.

Modern Adventure’s latest statement does not address those medical details and makes clear that the team will only release further information with the family’s approval.

Caudell has remained in hospital since the accident. In its first update earlier this week, Modern Adventure said he was receiving treatment for “multi system trauma” and thanked supporters for the messages sent to the rider and his family.

The team said that support has continued to be felt by those close to Caudell.

“We know that the incredible support for Ezra means a great deal to his family, as it does to all of us,” the statement read.

A friend close to the family has also set up a GoFundMe to support Caudell and his family during his recovery.

The 19-year-old Georgia native is considered one of the leading young American road prospects. He finished fourth in the under 23 road race at the US national championships this season and seventh in the elite race a day later.

Caudell has also spent part of 2026 competing in Europe with Modern Adventure Pro Cycling. In April, he became the youngest rider on the start list at Paris Roubaix, before later racing the Arctic Race of Norway and Tour of Denmark.
