Isaac del Toro ruled out of E3 Saxo Classic after start list confusion

Isaac del Toro will not make his cobbled debut at the E3 Saxo Classic after confusion over the provisional start list.

The Mexican champion had been reported as a starter earlier this week, with WielerFlits noting his presence on the initial list and citing race organiser Jacques Coussens. However, sources including WielerFlits itself have since clarified that this was a misunderstanding.

According to information obtained by Domestique and confirmed by UAE Team Emirates-XRG, the mix-up appears to have been a communication error In reality, it will be Tibor Del Grosso lining up for Alpecin-Premier Tech, not Del Toro.

Del Toro has made a strong start to the season. He claimed two stage wins and his first WorldTour stage race overall at the UAE Tour, before finishing third at Strade Bianche while supporting Tadej Pogačar to victory.

He followed that up by winning Tirreno-Adriatico, adding another stage victory along the way, and again rode in support of Pogačar at Milan Sanremo.

His next race is expected to be Itzulia Basque Country, which begins on April 6, where he could target a third consecutive WorldTour stage race win.

Del Toro is according to information by Daniel Benson then set to ride the Ardennes Classics, including Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, before turning his focus to his Tour de France debut, where he is expected to support Pogačar in his bid for a fifth title.
