'Pogacar is admirable, but it's boring' - Voeckler on world champion's dominance
France national coach Thomas Voeckler has assessed cycling's current landscape, praising Tadej Pogacar's dominance while acknowledging its impact on the sport's excitement.

In an interview with Cyclism Actu, Voeckler reflected on a 2025 season overwhelmingly dominated by UAE Team Emirates XRG and their Slovenian superstar. "Pogačar is admirable. What he does is incredible, with a simplicity and a pleasure in running that commands respect. But yes: it's boring," Voeckler said.
The former Tour de France yellow jersey wearer pointed specifically to how Pogačar's superiority was affecting race dynamics. "At the European Championships, the interest of the race was... for third place. The public was watching who will be on the podium. We can't say that it's ideal for suspense."
Beyond competitive concerns, Voeckler expressed alarm about cycling's economic trajectory. "To exist in the top 10 in the world today, you need a budget that has doubled compared to five years ago. This is not sustainable for everyone," he said, while acknowledging he lacks a "miracle solution" for budget regulation.
Despite Pogačar's current dominance, Voeckler remains optimistic about French cycling's future. He praised breakthrough performer Paul Seixas, whose European Championships bronze medal "shattered expectations," and he also highlighted Paul Magnier as a rider with "huge potential."
Asked about Seixas's possible Grand Tour schedule for the 2026 season, Voeckler was measured about the 19-year-old's plans. "I wouldn't allow myself to answer for the team. They have people who are responsible for that," he said. "My opinion is that riding the Giro, Tour or Vuelta won't change his career."
